Coty To Acquire Calvin Klein Cosmetics

Beetz bags the other piece of the Calvin Klein portfolio.

Coty Inc. has added the Calvin Klein Cosmetics license to its stable of products. Coty already owns the Calvin Klein fragrance license, and will develop a color cosmetics line for launch in 2012. Markwins Holding Co. was the previous holder of the license.

A little history. Coty acquired the Calvin Klein fragrance business in 2005 when it purchased Unilever’s entire prestige portfolio for $800 million. However, color cosmetics was not included in the deal. Markwins won the right to that line and, in spring 2007, unveiled a 210 SKU range. The range gained initial distribution in Asia and Europe, but the brand never caught on in the U.S.
